How about the freedom of speech in the USA?

Today I watched this video on Repubblica TV:

I'm speechless. What's happening in the USA? Why Andrew Meyer, a student asking embarrassing questions to U.S. Senator John Kerry, was arrested and mistreated by the police? I don't understand. Any ideas?
